Complex interactions, from the laboratory to the classroom, continually fascinate me. Microorganisms with unique capabilities to respire solid electron acceptors, especially those found in the laboratory in microbial electrochemical cells, provide the opportunity to apply diverse analytical techniques for new information. Moving outside the laboratory, I am interested in science teaching and science education research. My primary interests are in the research and communication of as well as teaching strategies for complex topics perceived as controversial in the public eye. These interactions provide new complexities in the feedback of public opinion on science communication, education, and policy.
